In excellent organization of SD "Gradac" on local swimming site "Soline", for the first time in long lasting history of Gradac's waterpolo, a three-day international waterpolo tournament for younger players (players born in 1988 and younger), called 5th Waterpolo Gradac Cro Cup 2006., on which seven tems took part, three from Croatia, two form Romania ("Astra Arad" A & B) and one from Holland ("AZ&PC" from Amersfoort) and France ("Saint Denis" from Paris).
Excellent atmosphere and sport spirit (except two Arad-Omis matches :) ) was there from the beginning to the end of this, strongest Summer tournamet for younger players in Croatia in 2006. During the three-day competition, traditionally played under moto "Sport against the drugs", 14 official tournament matches were held (without 3 training matches between "Gradac juniors" with "AZ&PC", "AZ&PC" vs. "Saint Denis" and "Gradac" vs. "Saint Denis") which have been seen by 1000 spectators, mostly foreign guests, and a little bit less residents from Makarska riviera and Neretva region..
Host of this very importan tournament for younger generations was VK "Gradac", Croatian third league team (group Split), established in 1956. and which celebrated its 50th anniversary during the August, the Golden Jubilee. and that was the reason VK "Gradac" wanted to organize big international waterpolo tournament with teams from bigger number of European countries, which will by its quality and excitement make more people watch the games and make our tourist offer richer.
Main purpose of tournament organization was connection and cooeration of Croatian youth with people of their age from different European countries. Our wish is to extend and raise cooperation with waterpolo teams from whole Europe.
In final match Romanian junior champions "Astra Arad - A" was better than Dutch junior champions "AZ&PC", with the score 11:6 and became the champion of the tournament, even though the Dutch were better supported from local crowd, who knew how to award goals, actions and savings from all players on "Soline" swimming area in daily and nightly matches.
In third place match "Astra Arad - B" used their bigger experience and beat "Omis" 9:7.
In fifth place match "Galeb MR" expectidly beat the youngest team of the tournament, the host, "Gradac" 17:11, while seventh place was taken by very nice team of "Saint Denis".
The best four teams got trophies, as well as the best players, and all of these were introduced by the major of Gradac municipality, Mr. Ivo Kosovic.
The best goalkeeper was Constantin Paul (Astra Arad - A), the best player of the tournament Thomas Lukas (AZ&PC), the best scorer, with 18 scores was Ivan Ivanac (Galeb MR), while fair-play trophy has been won by "Saint Denis". The most attractive player was, by the votes of the audience, Sveto Dobrota (Omis), the coach with the best temper was Branko Bjelanovic (Omis), the younger player was Ivan Bagur (Gradac), the oldest player was Radu Foltuc (Astra Arad - A), and all of them got their trophies.
The tems which won the tournament until 2006 are: "Korenat" from Dugi Rat (2002), "Omis" (2003), "Galeb MR" from Makarska (2004) and "Gradac" (2005).
Tuornament came to the end in Wednesday 23th of August in 21:45 after the winning ceremony, with all the highest grades and showed that Gradac is mature enough to organize bigger tournaments. After the end of the tournament, the dinner was organized on MB "Felun" for all teams reprezentatives and coaches, where they enjoyed in night panorama from Gradac to Zaostrog and Dalmatian music, sea food, meat specialities and quality wine, beer and juices.
It was the real pleasure being on the trip, organized by VK "Gradac", for honored guests from all teams after very well organized tournament.
